Reception Remarks:
Frank Gehry, Lead Designer for the National Eisenhower Memorial; Rocco C. Siciliano, Chairman, Eisenhower Memorial Commission
Across the street from the Capitol Building and up the hill from the future site of the memorial, attendees filled the lobby of the Reserve Officers Association (ROA) headquarters to mingle and meet Mr. Gehry. Special guests included three of President Eisenhower’s grandchildren and his great-grandson. Members of the Eisenhower Memorial Commission such as Kansans Senator Pat Roberts and Representative Jerry Moran stopped by to show their support as well.
The highlights of the evening were remarks by Mr. Gehry as well as Eisenhower Memorial Commission Chairman and former Special Assistant to President Eisenhower, Rocco C. Siciliano.
Prior to the reception, the Advisory Committee of the Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial Comission met to discuss the continuing advancement of the memorialization and Eisenhower’s legacy.
This special evening sets the tone for the upcoming design phase of the memorialization, scheduled to begin in early 2010.
