Part VI: Crises Abroad, Party Problems at Home; September 1954 to December 1954
Chapter 13: "A new phase of political experience"

Dear Mr. Hendrickson:1 Thank you very much for your thought in sending me such a nice selection of ties. I gladly accept them in spite of the fact that to do so raises some question of violation of a self-imposed, but very necessary, limitation applying to presents for Mrs. Eisenhower and for me. Because of this limitation--which you will understand without laborious explanation on my part--I must accompany the expressions of my gratitude with a request that you do not longer continue the practice.2

With best wishes, Sincerely

1 Hendrickson worked for the National Cash Register Company of Cincinnati, Ohio.

2 This was but one in a series of gifts Eisenhower had received from friends and well-wishers (see, for example, nos. 177 and 635).
