Dear Senator Taft: I thought you might be interested in a message I received this morning from the Secretary of State.1 As given below, it is slightly paraphrased merely because it was sent in code.
"At the opening of the NATO Council meeting I read your message.2 It was well received.3
"The announcement that you have requested Congress to consider legislation for the admission of 120 thousand immigrants was published here this morning and has had a very fine effect. The timing was excellent and a number of the delegations made statements applauding your action. De Gasperi said to me that it is particularly helpful with respect to the problem of their elections on June 7.4 /s/ DULLES." Sincerely
