Dear Bob: If you will remove the "old" people category, I'll admit that the socks are not only comfortable but luxurious. If the wind continues to be steady across the Gettysburg plains, I shall probably wear all nine pair at once.1
But on second thought, I shall have to think more seriously about that category. As I well know, you soon have a birthday anniversary, making you again a good year older than I am.2 (I shan't mention how elderly I feel at times).
I only wish Mamie and I could celebrate the affair with you and Nell. Have a fine time; know that I am more than grateful for your thought in sending the socks; and, as always, my very best. As ever
