The Papers of Dwight David Eisenhower, Volume XVI - The Presidency: The Middle Way
Part IX: "Concerning my political intentions"; December 1955 to April 1956
Chapter 18: On "an almost normal schedule"

Dear Aksel: Thank you very much for your thorough explanation of all of the ventures in which you are engaged, and in which I have a minority interest.1

I am taking the paragraphs dealing with the Turnpike Land, the Columbine Country Club, and the two farms, and sending them to George.2

I most earnestly request that whenever you put up any money for me on any of these projects, that you let me know promptly.3 This is necessary so that I can keep my own papers showing what I owe in this world and so avoid confusion in case that my affairs would be turned over to my heirs.

This thought brings up another request I have to make on you. I could do it myself from my records, but I am sure that yours are more accessible than are mine. The request is this. Would you please take each one of the projects (namely, Pine Acres, University Hills, Turnpike Land, Columbine Country Club, Farms A and B) and opposite each one show how much money I have turned over to you to date.4 Except for Pine Acres and University Hills, these amounts should be identical with those turned over by George. Then from here on I can set opposite each of these projects the amounts that I owe you.

5

Possibly I can do the same with some of the others except only when the amount is too much. In any case, when you do temporarily advance the money on my behalf to carry on any investment, do you not want me to send you a personal note for the amount? It seems to me this would also serve to keep your books straight, showing the amounts due you from me.6

With warm regard, As ever
