Dear Mr. Goodson: This letter is just to make a record of my very deep gratitude to you and all the members of the American Quarter Horse Association for the gift of Doodle De Doo and Sporty Miss.1
My appreciation to you covers so many items that I find it difficult to enumerate them all. I know you spent a great deal of your own time in finding animals that you judged to be exactly right for David and for me; additionally I am conscious of the time you took from your own business in order that you could deliver them in person to the Gettysburg farm. There is also the matter of the accessories that you brought along, and the fact that before the horses were delivered you had them bred to your outstanding stallion.
I suspect I have neglected to mention a number of other things that you did in the entirely successful effort to please David and me. I know that we will enjoy to the fullest the distinction of owning such fine horses and the pleasure they will give us now and in the future.
Mrs. Whitman is collecting all the photographs and will send you a set as soon as possible, and I understood from her, too, that you will give me a list of the Quarter Horse officials to whom you want to give autographed photographs.
I am afraid that I have neglected to mention some of the thoughtful things you did in connection with the gift; if so, I hope you will forgive me and know that I am truly appreciative and personally most grateful to you.
With warm regard, Sincerely
