Chapter 3: "A time for continued vigilance"

It has come to my attention that both Speaker Martin1 and Chairman Allen of the Rules Committee feel that they would like to know you better.2

I suggest you give them the chance, either through the medium of an occasional lunch or some other semi-social activity.

1 The President had met with Congressman Joseph W. Martin, Jr., the morning of May 19.

2 Illinois Republican Leo Elwood Allen (A.B. University of Michigan 1923) had been a member of Congress since 1933 and Chairman of the Rules Committee in the Eightieth and Eighty-third congresses.
