Chapter 6: Building strength when there is "no perfect answer"

Please get from Mr. Steffan for me some information on account procedures, with particular reference to travel and entertainment.1 I would like to know how the vouchers are drawn; who draws them against the transportation account. I want to get a certain understanding of what the funds are that are useable, and for what purposes.

I would like at the beginning of each month an accounting presented to me, and a statement of how the fund or funds stand.2

1 On Roger Steffan's role in White House entertaining see no. 344.

2 Staff Secretary Carroll and Eisenhower would have several off-the-record meetings on September 29 and 30 (see President's daily appointments).
