Chapter 1: Developing a spirit of teamwork

I think the notes on the Cabinet and Legislative Meetings provide a satisfactory record for the meetings to which they pertain.1

It might be wise to attempt a little bit of indexing; I am thinking of the possibility that, in six months to a year, you and I might be looking for some record as to a particular item discussed in the Cabinet or in the Legislative Meetings. Of course, it may be impossible to provide suitable indexing, but I think Minnich2 might think about it.3

1 For Eisenhower's interest in meetings with legislative leaders see no. 2; for his comments on early gatherings of the Cabinet see no. 23.

2 The names of persons present and index subjects discussed at these meetings eventually would comprise thirteen boxes of cards (see L. Arthur Minnich, Jr., Series, Records of the Staff Secretary, White House Office Papers, Dwight D. Eisenhower Library, Abilene, Kansas).

3 See no. 23.
