Dear Senator McPherson:1 While, of course, I appreciate the suggestion in your letter of February eighteenth, I would not want the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to consider simply on my behalf any improvement to the highway which runs past my farm at Gettysburg.2 In my opinion, the question of any improvement to this particular highway should merit the same attention that is accorded to any highway in Pennsylvania and in the light of what is best for the entire community.
It was thoughtful of you to write, nonetheless. Mrs. Eisenhower and I hope we will be able to use the farm at Gettysburg from time to time, but at present we cannot make any definite plans.
With best wishes, Sincerely
