Part V: Maintaining "a united defense"; April 1954 to August 1954
Chapter 11: The "men in the Kremlin are not to be trusted"

Dear Foster: An invitation to go fishing is always the nicest thing that can happen to me. The prospect of a day with you on or near your own island is truly intriguing. Let's watch our respective calendars and see if we can't sneak off some afternoon and then put in the next day at such an occupation.

My warm thanks both to you and to the Guides Association.1

As ever

1 On June 23 Dulles had written, "I have an invitation from the Cape Vincent Guides Association to you and me to spend the day with them sometime during July or August for fishing and shore dinner" (same file as document). In 1941 the Dulleses had purchased Duck Island on the eastern end of Lake Ontario--"famed, among other things," he wrote, "for its small-mouthed black bass fishing." There is no record in AWF that Eisenhower made the trip with Dulles.
