Dear Chief Baughman: Before I leave office I want to express to you the personal gratitude that Mrs. Eisenhower and I feel, as do John and Barbara, for the splendid service all members of the White House Detail of the United States Secret Service have given us these past eight years.1 Without the help of Jim Rowley and his assistants, we could not, of course, possibly have performed our official duties or, indeed, enjoyed any degree of private life.2
We are especially indebted to you for the efficiency with which you have supervised and directed the many activities of the White House Detail having to do with the protection and safety of the entire family, including most particularly our grandchildren.3
With warm personal regard, Sincerely
