Dear Mrs. Skinner: This will acknowledge your letter of January twenty-eighth.1 I am told that when you applied for a position at the Republican National Committee some years ago, Mrs. Eisenhower endorsed you on the basis of a long-time acquaintanceship.
I am sure that your services have proved satisfactory to the Committee, but I feel that any application for promotion or transfer of duties that you may have should be directed to Mr. Alcorn in person.2 The record of your service and your qualifications is undoubtedly on file, and will be helpful to him in making his decision. I cannot possibly interfere in a matter that is obviously one of office management within the headquarters of the Republican National Committee.
I am grateful for your good wishes and trust you will understand why I cannot provide you with a personal endorsement for a specific position within the Committee's office. Sincerely
