Dear Winston: Thank you so much for your note of the twenty-fourth. I am tremendously pleased that you have agreed to the idea of an exhibition of your paintings in the United States.1 Without question the showing will be a great success, and will help to strengthen the close ties of friendship that exist between the peoples of our two countries.
Quite selfishly, I am even more delighted by your offer to give me one of your works.2 I have long cherished a desire to own an original Churchill--and I have never quite found the courage to ask you.
I understand that you invited me to write a bit of a foreword to the brochure that will be used in connection with the paintings.3 While I am probably little qualified for the task, it will be a great honor to make an attempt. As ever
