Dear Pat: That was a lovely party you gave the other evening for the Brownells.1 I not only enjoyed the company and the hospitality, but I was amazed at the musical performance. In fact, I am not quite sure I understand it yet.

1 Vice-President and Mrs. Nixon had given a dinner party at the F Street Club in Washington, D.C., on November 21, honoring Herbert Brownell, who on October 23 had resigned his position as Attorney General to return to private law practice (New York Times, Oct. 24, 1957; see also no. 22).
