Dear Bob: My new set of Spalding clubs has just arrived. Ed Dudley arranged with Mr. Tait to have the swing weights slightly less than in my previous set which, of course, immediately gave me the idea that all my difficulties would be immediately rectified. I haven't had an opportunity to practice much of late and while these new clubs feel very fine, my wrist muscles are so weak that I can't claim the superior prowess that I thought would result. However, I do think that in general the weights are better. Certainly the clubs are very handsome and I am, as always, grateful beyond words.1

With warm regard, As ever

1 In 1956 Spalding had begun producing woods and irons under Jones's name (see Galambos and van Ee, The Middle Way, no. 1980). For background on golf professional Dudley's offer to have a set of Spalding clubs made for the President see no. 499. On this same day Eisenhower also would thank Dudley and Don Tait of A. G. Spalding and Brothers, Inc. (both in AWF/N).
