Dear Cliff: On the plane the other day you showed to me a letter that detailed some of the planned improvements at Augusta.1 You suggested that each member should purchase $500 worth of bonds that could be used, in part for greens fees and rent. You also said that you would be sending out some specific notices about the matter.
I have received no communication from you, but I do assure you that I am quite ready to purchase the $500 worth of bonds. You don’t need to bother sending me any official letter because I think it would be easier for Mrs. Whitman to call Mrs. Harris and find out exactly how I write the check out and how the credit is set up at the Club.2 I remember that some years back I put in some money for similar bonds, but I do not think I received a certificate. I believe that Mrs. Harris just keeps a running account for each of us.
In any event, I want you to know that I have not forgotten the obligation.
Ann tells me that you "recommend" a visit to Augusta for this coming weekend. I may take you up; my schedule these days is far from easy and so I must wait until the last minute to make the decision.3
All the best. As ever
