Dear Art: Quite naturally I am proud and delighted that the Erica heifer won first place in her class at the Ohio State Fair show. Congratulations to you and Bob Hartley!1

I am dropping a note to Mr. Heckett and to Bill Ewing, as you suggest.2

So far I have managed to achieve a greater degree of isolation from problems and paper work than I could have thought possible. I have a great hunch, however, that this is only the Labor Day lull and cannot possibly last.3

With affectionate regard to Ann and all the best to yourself, As ever

1 Nevins had written on August 30 that he had attended the Angus cattle show at the Ohio State Fair (AWF/Gettysburg).

2 Nevins said he had visited with the Hecketts and that their entries won most of the competitions. Nevins also had suggested that the President send a congratulatory note to the Ewings regarding the showing of a calf dropped by their cow. On the Hecketts and the Ewings, who raised Angus cattle, see nos. 148 and 10, respectively.

3 The Eisenhowers would vacation in Newport, Rhode Island, August 30 - September 23.
