Dear Jock: I neglected to cable you after receiving your fine message about the dinner attended by The Queen.1 I am sorry that I overlooked the matter for the moment, but I do hope that you will find an opportunity through Selwyn Lloyd or through Harold Macmillan to assure her of the appreciation that Mamie and I felt for the gracious message in which she joined.2
Your glowing reports on the success of the Nixon trip paralleled others that I have received. I regret that he and Pat could not have had more time to travel about Europe so that many in other countries could understand that the young, progressive men and women in the Republican Party comprise a force and an ideal that will yet be felt throughout the free world, to its benefit.3
My very best to you and Betsey, and particularly my gratitude for the magnificent way in which you handled all the details of Dick’s and Pat’s visit. As ever
